Amtrak | Beech Grove Shops, Building 46 Diesel Shop Locker Room Upgrades
Located in Beech Grove, Indiana, the Beech Grove Shops is Amtrak’s largest train maintenance facility in the nation and runs a rigorous 24-hour operation divided in multiple shifts.
The existing diesel shop at Building 46 houses a worker’s lounge area and men’s and women’s restrooms/locker rooms, providing a needed break from the activities and noise of the fervent shop floors.
SYSTRA provided a new upgraded design for the locker rooms and bathrooms assuring ADA/code compliance. We also reconfigured the spaces to adjust to the programmatic needs of an increasingly diverse workforce.
The new design included all new bathroom fixtures and accessories as well as new high wear, mold-resistant and easily cleaned finishes and furniture throughout. The design was part of an initiative to improve the facility ’s environmental audits and meet Amtrak’s sustainability goals.
