Amtrak | Nationwide State of Good Repair and ADA Station Survey Assessments
SYSTRA supported Amtrak in achieving a State of Good Repair (SOGR) throughout its passenger rail transportation system. This involved all of Amtrak’s operating assets, including stations. In addition to SOGR considerations, Amtrak was required to comply with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and related ADA accessibility.
To help Amtrak achieve SOGR and ADA compliance, SYSTRA assessed existing conditions at 218 stations throughout the United States. The surveys were to determine the useful life expectancy of existing station components and systems and identify the absence of systems typically found in a passenger railroad station environment, such as air conditioning and exterior lighting.
Following each survey, SYSTRA created a report that provided a clear, accurate and credible basis for Amtrak’s planning, budgeting and funding requests.
The assessments required safe and cost-effective execution of a logistically challenging field survey and work products that were readily useable to support subsequent Amtrak actions for SOGR and ADA compliance.
