NJDOT | Route 46 Pedestrian Bridge
Providing a safe and accessible pedestrian path across two high-traffic roadways and reconnecting severed parts of the Township were the main goals for this project.
The new pedestrian bridge consisted of two spans. The first, approximately 170 feet in length, crossed the intersection of Route 46 and Franklin Road from the southwest corner to the infield area of the westbound Route 46 off-ramp. The second span, approximately 145 feet in length, crossed over to finalize the elevated route in Gardner Field Park.
Part of the design also included a new plaza at the ADA accessible bridge entrances from Gardner Field; this new transitional area helped integrate the new structure in to the park.
